Our Staff

Jeff Black - Director

We are excited to announce the appointment of Jeff Black, MSW, to the position of Director of The Centre.  Jeff has been a youth worker with Hatts Off in Dundas, a family support worker with Good Shepherd, child protection worker with the Children’s Aid Society and has held other management-related responsibilities with McMaster’s aquatics division.  He has also held other work term assignments with the School Board, St. Joseph’s Health Care, and with McMaster University in research and teaching.  Jeff’s training and experience brings to Routes a strong understanding of youth culture, of the issues and stresses that youth are currently facing, and a solid connection with other social service agencies in our community.  He is no stranger to advocacy and the challenges of launching new initiatives.

Jenna Mitchell - Program Manager

Jenna grew up in a rural community outside London, Ontario.  She will soon complete her final year in the Bachelor of Social Work program at York University.  Jenna joined us in the summer of 2017 to develop our Summer Youth Employment Services and has continued to implement innovative programs with our youth through her social work placement.  Her leadership as interim supervisor was crucial during our recent staff transition.  She is thoughtful and caring in her support for families, children and youth.  Jenna has experience working with children and youth as a health educator, nanny, tutor, camp counsellor and camp program staff member.  She also has experience fundraising and doing community advocacy and outreach.  Jenna wants to contribute to making Routes a place where everyone feels like they belong, like they matter and like they can create change.  Jenna is thrilled to be a part of the Routes family.

Julia Elzinga - Youth Worker

Guess who's back?!  After two years away former staff member Julia has returned to the Routes family.  Julia comes to us from Burlington with more than ten years of experience in the child and youth recreation field.  With a diploma in Child and Youth Work, as well as Recreation and Leisure Services (with a specialty in Therapeutic Recreation), Julia is experienced in the use of recreation as therapy for children and youth.  Julia has worked with several youth-serving organizations throughout Hamilton and Halton and has spent many years in Hamilton's high schools talking to youth about mental health, another area of interest for Julia.  Julia is excited to return to the community of Dundas and to meet old friends and make new friends.

Maleigha Ford - Youth Worker

Maleigha grew up in Oakville Ontario. Her passion for working with children started from a young age and blossomed into her career.  She received her Advanced Child and Youth Worker Diploma from Mohawk College in 2013.  Maleigha has experience working with children and youth of all ages and is excited to interact, learn and work with the youth from the Dundas community.  Maleigha is the proud mom to her son, Ryder.   Maleigha prides herself on her ability to make anything fun and engaging and is a passionate youth advocate.  Maleigha has a warm and outgoing demeanor that brings great energy to the centre!
